Sypher offers services focused on improving your company's use
of web technology. These services include everything from application
development and systems design to simple web site development and
on-site support. And while we normally use Microsoft products in our
solutions, we are dedicated to using the right tool for the job, whether
it is based on Windows, Linux, Unix, or Mac OS.
All of our web development, no matter what platform, is based on the
following open standards:
-
XHTML (eXtensible HyperText Markup Language) - This new standard
in HTML is much stricter and simpler than plain old HTML, so it makes it
much easier to get the same result from different web browsers. It also
makes the code much easier to read and debug.
-
CSS (Cascading StyleSheets) - This goes hand-in-hand with XHTML.
While XHTML is used to handle the basic layout of the web page, CSS is
used to do all of the stylizing.
Most of our web site customers also choose to host their site with us. To keep our
hosted web sites up and running at full speed, we use servers located at
Peak 10 data centers.
To help other people discover our hosted web sites, we use
Google Sitemaps to inform Google's crawler about all of the sites' pages.
Web Application Development
This is what we do best. If you have an idea for an application, or you
would like to re-develop an existing application to work with your favorite
web browser, we can help you through every step of the development process:
from design and prototyping, to actual development, testing, documentation,
packaging, and deployment. We can create private applications just for your
company, or we can create retail software that you can sell to your own
clients.
Examples of Our Work
-
Connections Online http://www.connectionsonline.net/demo/
-
Connections Online was originally designed in 1999 by Bryan. Since then,
he has been updating and adding to the original application. In 2005,
Sypher will begin developing the next version of the application.
Web Site Development
If all you want is a couple of pretty web pages that don't really do
anything, you can literally find dozens of web designers who would be more than
happy to whip something up in FrontPage. You may even be able to use one of the
quick design tools yourself and put together a few pages in a matter of hours.
However, what do you do when you want to tie your web site in to your real-time
inventory, customer lists, accounting packages, etc.? What if you want your
site to be interactive and not just another collection of fancy graphics?
You guessed it: just contact Sypher. We aren't just web designers, we're
web engineers. With our experience in application development, we know exactly
how to do that technical wizardry in the background to turn your web site into
a useful tool. We can sometimes even make things look pretty, too. :-)
Examples of Our Work
-
The Louisville News Company Web Site http://www.lounews.com/
-
The Louisville News Company site uses a custom e-commerce product catalog that
allows the products to be browsed by product type or by event. The site is
a good example of using microformats to
share more information with the site visitor. The contact information for
the Louisville News Company and for Sypher are available on every page of
the site in microformat.
-
Connections Online Web Site http://www.connectionsonline.net/
-
The Connections Online site was designed to match the Flash demo used on the Web site.
The violet blue background, area tabs, and white lettering mimic the color scheme and
layout of the demo.
-
I/Gear Web Site http://www.igearonline.com/
-
The original I/Gear Web site was designed by Bryan when he
worked for APS. Since then, the site has been updated by APS, but
they asked Bryan to make a few stylisitic changes to the site
again in 2004.
-
Brass Butterfly Web Site http://www.brassbutterfly.us/
-
The Brass Butterfly Web site layout and graphics were designed by Sypher.
The site itself is now updated and run by Brass Butterfly Photography.
Logo Design
While it isn't our primary focus, designing corporate logos is something we really
enjoy doing. Many of the tools we use for web design are the same tools needed for
professional logo design, so logo design is a perfect addition to our service.
Unlike the cheap logo design companies on the Web, we know that corporate
logos need to meet many more criteria than just fitting on a web page. Corporate
logos should look good on letterhead, on Web pages, on business cards, embroidered
on clothing, and anywhere else companies may want to use them.
And unlike the big creative advertising agencies, we also realize that small
businesses deserve "big company" logos without big company pricing. All of our
logo designs include:
- Original EPS/AI files
- Once your logo is designed, you can do whatever you want with it. We don't
hog the original vectorized files to force you to pay us whenever you want
to use your logo in a new way. Instead, we send you the EPS files so you
can print business cards, marketing material, or embroider new
company shirts on your own. EPS files allow your logo to be re-sized by the
printer to almost any size you want.
- GIF/JPG/PNG copies
- Since we give you the original EPS files, you can make your own Web-ready
versions of your logo, but we also include copies of your logo in standard-sized
GIF, JPG, and PNG formats to get you started.
- Full-color, two-color, and monichrome versions
- Your coporate logo needs to look good in full color, but it also needs to look
good when colors are limited (as in embroidered clothing) or black and white is
the only option (faxes, ads, and other b&w documents).
- Multiple layout examples
- If your logo includes text and a graphic, the combination of the two can be done
in many different ways: side by side, stacked, super-imposed, and in multiple sizes
of each. Our logo services include a handful of recommended layouts.
Examples of Our Work
Brass Butterfly Logo
- The Brass Butterfly logo incorporates a butterfly into the 'B' in
Brass and carries the 'B' shape over to the word Butterfly. The
butterfly can stand on its own or as part of the Brass Butterfly text.
n + 1 Logo
- The n + 1 logo is based on Fibonacci numbers, the Golden Ratio, and the Golden Spiral.
The tie-in to mathematics and the simple red blocks were a perfect fit.
The Louisville News Company Logo
- The Louisville News Company logo is an updated version of their previous logo.
The open book was redrawn in a vectorized format to allow it to be printed
very large or very small. The font was also updated to give it more of a
newspaper-like feel.
Sypher Technology Logo
- The Sypher Technology logo includes both the stylized "S" chip graphic and
the Sypher Technology text in a techno-style font. The text blends some of
the letters while leaving the words easily readable.
Internet Systems Design & Implementation
Our internet expertise doesn't stop with web sites. We can also help you to plan,
upgrade, or add new e-mail servers, firewalls, anti-virus servers, and intrusion
detection systems.
On-Site Support
We offer free 1-year, next-day, on-site support for all of our customers in the
Greater Louisville area, including Oldham and Shelby counties. This support can be
upgraded to same-day on-site support and can also be renewed yearly.
